What does an oral surgeon do?

Lasting dental health and aesthetics are the pillars of the patient-oriented philosophy of Oralchirurg Berlin. You can expect the very latest technical standards and lasting treatment success from our practice. The oral surgeon in Berlin is a professional in all oral surgery matters. Whether it's root tip resections, tooth extractions, jaw bone augmentation, tooth transplants, wisdom-tooth extractions, jaw function imbalances, tooth deformities, fractures, congenital malformations, jaw or facial pain. The field of activity of the oral surgeon includes plastic and reconstructive surgery of this part of the body (e.g. after accidents) as well as purely aesthetic surgery. Cosmetic gum corrections, gum straightening and the treatment of sensitive tooth necks are also the focus of oral surgery. In this way, the aesthetics in the visible area can be optimized. In general, oral surgeons perform operations to improve certain functions and appearance. Oral surgery also includes jaw fracture treatments, the harmonization of jaw misalignments or correction after dislocations and maxillary sinus surgery. The costs for oral surgery are usually covered by statutory health insurance.

Gentle treatment for anxious patients

People with dental phobia also receive empathetic and competent care at the Oralchirurg Berlin practice, where each individual treatment step is explained in detail and the patient is allowed to set the pace. In this way, you do not feel helpless and can gradually solve your dental or jaw-related problem together with the oral surgeon. Panic attacks before operations or anxiety fantasies about root tip resections don't have to be! The empathetic expert in the field of oral surgery will discuss your individual treatment plan with you in peace and quiet and inform you about the alternatives to local anaesthesia such as twilight sleep (sedation) or general anaesthesia. The best thing to do is to arrange a consultation in advance and get to know the relaxed and technically modern ambience in an informal setting.

What is an apicoectomy?

Sometimes root canal treatment is not enough and the inflammation flares up again, resulting in abscesses in some cases. If complications arise, a root apex resection is indicated, in which the affected root area is surgically removed. Horror scenarios surrounding the topic of apicoectomy are not appropriate. Root tip resection is completely painless. The operation is of short duration and can be performed under local anesthesia / twilight sleep / general anesthesia. In this way, the tooth is permanently restored and can be saved in up to 90% of cases.

How does an apicoectomy work?

If it becomes necessary to "get to the root of the problem", the oral surgeon will first make a precise diagnosis. Before the oral surgery procedure, the focus of inflammation is determined. Once the site of the inflammation has been precisely localized, local anaesthesia is administered, which enables a painless operation. Using a lateral approach via the oral mucosa, the tip of the tooth root is exposed by the oral surgeon in Berlin after minimal removal of the overlying bone. The inflamed tissue and the root tip are then removed, the surrounding area and the root canal are cleaned and finally approx. 3 mm of the root tip is shortened. The root is then filled from the root tip. This is followed by hygienic wound closure. After the recovery process, the tooth is sealed with a filling. If the infectious symptoms subside directly after the operation, the root tip resection has a very good prognosis - the tooth can then be preserved. The healing of the jawbone is checked using X-rays. After six months, the treated tooth should be fully rehabilitated. During the follow-up, it is checked again whether the procedure has had a positive long-term effect. If there are still signs of inflammation, the root apex resection can be repeated if necessary. If the apicoectomy still does not provide the desired result and tooth extraction is unavoidable, an implant is a stable and aesthetic alternative.

When do you need an implant?

Dental implants are an effective solution after injuries or other serious dental damage. If a tooth has to be extracted or is already missing, the gap must be closed to create an even bite and avoid any health problems that may result. The Oral Surgeon Berlin takes time for his patients and informs you in detail about the various options for tooth replacement in an initial consultation.
